Can I specify an exact location to pick up my car?

Once your booking is confirmed, we will arrange for the chosen vehicle to be available from your chosen city office location at the time and date chosen. If you would like to specify the rental location for example your hotel, you will need to modify your booking by calling Thrifty Reservations on +357-22-860000 or by replying to your booking confirmation email with your location requirement.

Can I choose the car model?

When you make your reservation, you will be prompted to choose a vehicle group. This group will normally cover a number of car models. In Cyprus our car groups are booked via engine size. Unfortunately, we are unable to guarantee a specific model at the time of booking.

Can I choose the colour of the car?

We can not guarantee you will receive a certain colour of car. This is based on availability. Upon arrival, if you are picking up from a city office location you may advise the counter representative of your preference, and if available, we will be happy to accomodate your preference.

How do you calculate the rental rates?

We charge in periods of 24 hours, so if you take a car for 26 hours for instance, it would be charged as 2 days. We do allow a grace time of 59 minutes before we charge for an additional day. The actual cost of the rental will depend on the group of car, when you rent, for how long and where.

Will I receive confirmation of my booking?

If you make an online booking we will send you a reservation confirmation by email. You should print this and keep it for your records. When you collect your car you'll receive a Rental Agreement which shows your booking details.

How old do I need to be to rent?

An age restriction applies in Cyprus for drivers under 25 or over 65 years of age. A fee of EURO 20.00 will be applicable for these drivers per rental, to allow them to drive by issuing a special insurance. In order to avoid this charge the renter must be at least 25 years of age or the holder of a valid driving licence for at least 3 years, or under 65.

Can another person drive the rental vehicle?

Each Thrifty vehicle is rented to a specific single driver. The renter may add extra permitted drivers in accordance with Thrifty Car Rental standard policies at a supplemental charge of EURO 3.50 per day per extra permitted driver where applicable.

What documents will I need to provide?

All drivers of the vehicle will need to be present and provide a valid driver's license. UK drivers with the photocard driver's license should present both their photocard and the accompanying driver record document. You must have held a full clean licence for at least one year. An International Driver's Permit alone is not sufficient for rental - it can only be used in conjunction with a standard driving licence. You will also need a credit/debit card in your own name. Further identification, such as a passport, may also be required. Please note that any discounts or vouchers must be presented upon arrival.

Are there any mileage limits?

All cars come with unlimited mileage/kilometers. This applies to all cars hired at standard or web discounted rates, provided all other terms and conditions are up-held.

Will there be some petrol in the car?

Most rental cars are provided with a full tank of fuel. You pay in advance for the fuel and bring the car back empty. Fuel cost is paid by the renter at the time of delivery and is non refundable.

Inclusive third party

When you book a Thrifty Cyprus vehicle you can be sure that the one price will include third party insurance with excess (deductible). The exact amount is specific to the type of car and is clearly highlighted during the online booking process.

Super damage waiver (S.D.W)

By acquiring S.D.W, you can eliminate the liability for excess in the event of an accident. The exact amount is specific to the type of car and is clearly highlighted during the online booking process.

Additional damage waiver (A.D.W)

Insurance and/or S.D.W does not cover tires, windscreen and oil sump. Liability to the above can be waived if A.D.W is acquired for the amount of EURO 5.50 per day.

What if I break down or need help outside office hours?

Thrifty provides free 24 hour roadside assistance in case of emergency, breakdown or accident involving your Thrifty rental car anywhere in Cyprus. Just call the number +357 97-775561 for further assistance.

What happens if the car gets damaged?

Please ensure you check over the car yourself when you first collect it. If you notice any damage at all, please tell the rental agent who will record it on the rental agreement.

The rental agent will inspect the car when you return it. If any damage has been incurred during rental you will have to pay the cost of repair up to the replacement value of the car, unless you are covered for Super Damage Waiver, in which case you will only have to pay an excess if applicable.

Can I extend the rental period?

Should you wish to extend your rental beyond the agreed date of termination, it is important that you visit our nearest office 48 hours in advance so that insurance coverage is extended and relevant amount for rental is paid.

Where can I drop the car off?

The rental vehicle may be returned to the same location you are collecting it from, or to another Thrifty location - whichever is specified at time of booking. A one-way fee may be incurred if the collection and return locations are different.

Can I return the car outside office hours?

Opening times vary for each location. It is not possible to drop the car off once the office has closed. If you are returning the car at your hotel, then it is possible.

If I bring the car back early can I have a refund?

You will only have to pay for the time you take the car - charged in periods of 24 hours with a 59 minute grace period. For example, over 25 hours counts as 2 days. Please inform the location if you decide to return your vehicle earlier than expected. Please note that this does not apply for rentals that you have decided to pre-pay for. Should you decide to return your rental vehicle earlier than the agreed date, we are unable to refund the difference from your pre-pay voucher.

What about payment

You will need to pay for any additional rental fees or extra charges such as an additional driver or a child seat using a major credit/debit card in your name. Payment is taken at the end of your rental. If you chose to prepay for your rental, payment is taken when the booking is made. You are still required to have a major credit/debit card when you collect your vehicle as this will be necessary for a deposit if not already paid online or if you wish to take out further insurances at the location.

Do I need to refuel before returning the car?

Regardless of how much fuel is left in the tank, credits will not be given for unused petrol.
